 | I would add that in order to be proactive, you need to act on foresight. If you are waiting for some information to enable you to make a more perfect decision, but the decision really should be made before you receive the information, you may be able to predict a likely outcome of the information. The information may lead to a number of choices, so you could rank each possible outcome eg if the information suggests 'A' is the better option, then I should do 'C' or 'D'. You could list the pros and cons of 'C' and 'D'. If the information suggests that 'B' will be a better option, then you could do 'E', 'F' or 'G'. So you list the pros and cons of 'E', 'F' and 'G' and maybe rank them in some way. At the very least, you could assess the worst case scenario out of 'C', 'D', 'E', 'F' and 'G'. If you know you definitely don't want 'F', then you should pick 'A' as your 'primary' choice so that you know that you will eliminate 'F'. I was in this position when I found out that my job may be moving 25 miles from 'A' to 'B' but I wasn't sure. It would be at least 18 months before I found out. I wanted to buy a house at the time, but couldn't decide between location 'A' and 'B'. My instinct was that my job would move to 'B', but I stupidly waited to find out, during which time, the house prices skyrocketed. I'm priced out of location 'B' now, so am buying in location 'A'. The commute from 'A' to 'B' is a nightmare, as it's from a commuter town to a city centre. If I had bought in location 'B' to start with and my job had stayed at 'A', the commute would take less than half the time, because it's in the opposite direction to most of the traffic. I knew this when I could have made the choice to start with but felt compelled to wait for confirmation of the new job location instead of acting on foresight.
